Do you know it is now mandatory for every EPF account holder to link their Aadhaar with their UAN (Universal Account Number)? If your EPF account is not linked with your Aadhaar, your contributions won’t be contributed towards EPF – huge loss, right?
Let us help you out with the steps to update and/or link Aadhaar with UAN and keep your EPF account active.
Why Should I Link my Aadhaar with UAN?
As per the notification released by EPFO under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India, EPF contributions will only be allowed for those members who have linked their Aadhaar with their respective UANs.
Read the official notification below for further clarification:
Please note: ECR is the Electronic Challan Receipt which is submitted by your employer to the EPFO. If ECR is not submitted, your EPF account is not be credited with EPF contributions.

Once the process is completed, you will be able to see a notification saying “Your AADHAAR has been seeded successfully”. (Here seeding means linking only).

DID YOU KNOW?
You can have multiple EPF Member IDs but your UAN remains the same throughout your service. That means there can be many member IDs linked to one UAN but there is only one UAN for each EPF member. If you have been allotted with two UANs, immediately get these merged into one.

Aadhaar – UAN Link: FAQs
UAN or the Universal Account Number is a 12-digit number which is given to each employer enrolled with EPF. It’s used for every EPF-related communication.
Seeding of Aadhaar simply means to link your Aadhaar with your EPFO UAN. For linking, you need to update your Aadhaar number in EPFO records which can be done using EPFO member portal, UMANG App or by contacting your employer.
If your Aadhaar is not linked with your UAN, you will not be able to change your EPFO UAN password. Firstly, seed/link it and then you’ll be able to use the online services offered by EPFO.
If you are not able to link Aadhaar with your UAN via UMANG App, try EPFO member portal. If that doesn’t work either, please contact your employer and they will help you out with Aadhaar update with EPFO UAN.
