What is EPFO?
Every EPF or PF account in India is created and managed by EPFO. The full form of EPFO is “Employees Provident Fund Organisation”. This organization is a statutory body run by the Government of India and comes under the Employees Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Act, 1952.
The organization has an online website where the EPFO member portal can be accessed by the member employees and employers.
There are two schemes regulated by EPFO:
- Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme 1952
- Employee’s Pension Scheme (EPS) 1995
- Insurance Scheme (Employee’s Deposit Linked Insurance or EDLI), 1976
Important Notice: As of 1st June 2021, it is mandatory to link your PF account with your Aadhaar. PF contributions will not be credited to the accounts not linked with Aadhaar. |
What is UAN?
Universal Account Number or UAN, is a unique 12-digit number allotted to the employees registered under the EPF scheme. This EPF UAN is used for login purposes, i.e. it enables the employee to access the online services provided by EPFO.
UAN is allotted by EPFO and the process is initiated by employer, although now with EPFO e-Sewa portal, employees can do direct UAN allotment without involving employer.
If you do not know your EPFO UAN, it can be easily checked online using the EPFO member portal. Simply use the below link to check your UAN:
