Why is my EPF Passbook/Balance not available?
There could be several reasons why your EPF passbook/balance is not available. Here are a few possible reasons:
- You are working in an exempted organisation: Establishments such as trusts*, Non-Profit Organisations and educational institutions fall under the EPF exemption list. If you’re working in any of these, chances are your passbook won’t be visible. You will receive a message like this, if your organization has a trust:
“Passbook/Balance not available to this Member-id as this pertain to exempted establishment (i.e. Trust).”
2. Your employer has not registered you for the EPF scheme: EPF is a mandatory scheme for employers with 20 or more employees. If your employer has not registered you for the EPF scheme, you will not be able to access your passbook or balance.
3. Your employer has not contributed to the EPF scheme: Even if your employer has registered you for the EPF scheme, they must make regular contributions to your EPF account. If they have not made these contributions, your passbook or balance will not be updated.
4. Technical issues with the EPFO website: Sometimes, the EPFO website may experience technical issues, which can prevent you from accessing your passbook or balance. You can try accessing the website at a later time or contact the EPFO helpline for assistance.
5. Your EPF account is inactive: If you have not made any contributions to your EPF account for a certain period, it may become inactive. In such cases, you will not be able to access your passbook or balance until your account is reactivated.
*Trusts are typically created for specific purposes such as charitable or religious activities. They are not considered employers under the EPF scheme, and hence they are not required to contribute to the EPF scheme or maintain a passbook/balance. Therefore, EPF passbook/balance is not available for trusts as they are not covered under the EPF scheme.
