How to Generate GST Challan Online?
Prior to GST online payment, there is a prerequisite to generate GST Challan and here are the steps for it:
Step 1: Go to the GST Homepage and login.

Step 2: Click on “Services”.

Step 3: Select “Payments” and then hit the “Create Challan” option. (refer the above image)

Step 4: Enter your “GSTIN or other ID in the page thus opened and click on “Proceed”. (refer the above image)
Step 5: Enter the details of your taxable transactions (supplies and purchases)
Step 6: Select the mode of payment and generate your online GST challan.
You can choose to pay right-away and if you prefer, you can save your application and pay your GST direct payment later.
GST Payment Online: Steps to make GST Challan Payment Online
Once you’ve generated your GST challan, follow the steps given here to make your GST online payment:
Step 1: Log into GST portal.
Step 2: Click on “Services”.

Step 3: Select “Payments” and then go for “Challan History”.
Step 4: Select to search for the GST challan via CPIN or date.

You will see something like this (above image). Please note that you need to make your GST payment by due date to avoid attracting any penalties, whatsoever.
Now, you can either choose the mode of payment or go for your prior-selected mode of payment, if you selected it when generating GST challan online.
Step 5: After choosing your GST online payment mode, click on “Make Payment”. Please make sure to read terms and conditions before going ahead with GST payment online.
Step 6: Make your GST payment in this step via netbanking or debit/credit card, as chosen by you.

Step 7: Click on “View Receipt” to view the GST payment you just made. You can also choose to view your cash ledger to confirm the payment.
GST Payment Online: Modes of Payment
There are two ways to make your GST payment: online or offline.
GST Payment: Offline
If you choose to make your GST payment offline, then you need to select “Over The Counter” payment mode or “NEFT/RTGS” when generating GST challan. Next, select the name of bank where the cash will be deposited and “remitting bank” if doing NEFT/RTGS. Now click on “Generate Challan” and take a print-out of this GST challan you just generated. Visit your bank and make your GST payment as per the mode you chose.
GST Payment: Online
You can make your GST payment online using two options, just like in offline GST payment mode, viz.:
- Via Debit Card or Credit Card
- Via Netbanking

GST Payment: FAQs
You can generate GST challan using the GST Online Payment Portal. This can be done by logging into the portal or without logging.
No. You can choose to pay your GST sometime later as well. However, for this, you must login to the GST portal. If you do not wish to login, you need to generate your GST challan and make GST payment online/offline simultaneously. It is advised to make payment before GST payment due date to avoid penalty.
Yes. In case of no sale and purchase, you will be go for filing for nil GST return. Avoiding this shall incur fine/late fee payment of up to Rs 500 (Rs 250 each for CGST and SGST).
