Overall, e-PAN offers a range of benefits such as convenience, speed, accuracy, and digitization.
Difference between Phyical PAN and e PAN
PAN or Permanent Account Number, is a unique 10-digit alpha-numeric code that is assigned by the Indian Income Tax Department to individuals, companies, and other entities. Basically PAN is allotted to those lawful entities that pay taxes in India. PAN is a physical plastic card which serves as an ID proof and is required for various financial activities like opening a bank account, applying for a loan and especially when filing income tax returns.
e-PAN, on the other hand, is an electronic version of the PAN card. It is like a soft copy of the PAN card. It contains the same information as a physical PAN card, including the individual’s name, date of birth, and PAN number.
Features of e PAN Card
Here are some key features of the e-PAN card:
- Validity: The e-PAN card is a valid proof of identification and can be used for various financial transactions, just like a physical PAN card.
- Digital format: The e-PAN card is like a soft-copy of your usual PAN card which is generated and used digitally. It is issued by UTITSL and NSDL eGov, just like physical PAN Card.
- Can’t be stolen: Since it is in digital format, you won’t lose it anywhere nor would it be stolen, unless there’s a technical threat.
Please note that it is mandatory to link your PAN with Aadhaar and the same rule applies for those who apply for an ePAN. Here’s how to link your PAN with Aadhaar online.
