What is FASTag?
FASTag, designed to streamline toll collection in India, is a device affixed to vehicles and managed by 23 banks under the governance of NPCI (National Payment Corporation of India) and NHAI (National Highway Authority of India). This innovation eliminates the need for human involvement in toll collection through the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.
FASTag is securely placed on the vehicle’s windshield and connected to a prepaid account. As the vehicle passes through the toll gate, toll payments are automatically processed via RFID technology, eliminating the need to stop at toll plazas during your journey. The prepaid FASTag account is debited for the transaction, streamlining the payment process. For added convenience, you can also link your Savings or Current Account to FASTag for electronic toll payments.
How to Register for FASTag Online?
You can do the FASTag Registration through the NETC website. The steps given below will help you complete the registration process.
Step 1: Visit the official website of NETC i.e., netc.org.in
Step 2: Click on the option ‘Apply for NETC FASTag’ option on the homepage of the website
Step 3: Select your bank from the dropdown menu
Step 4: Click on the Bank URL and you will be directed to the bank’s FASTag application page
Step 5: Click on the ‘Apply online’ option and be directed to the FASTag application form
Step 6: Fill in the application form with personal details, details of your vehicle, and contact details.
Step 7: Double-check the details provided in the form for accuracy
Step 8: Upload the documents required which include a scanned copy of your address proof, photo ID proof, and the registration certificate of your vehicle
Step 9: The next step will be payment for the FASTag through any of payment options available like debit card, credit card, net banking, etc
Step 10: On successful payment, you will receive an acknowledgement or a reference number which you need to note down for future reference
Step 11: A representative of the issuing bank will call you to verify the documents submitted
Step 12: Once the verification process is complete, the bank will issue the FASTag and dispatch it to your delivery address within 7 to 8 days from the date of application.
Step 13: The FASTag will normally be pre-activated and ready to use.
How to Register FASTag on Paytm?
FASTag registration through Paytm is the most convenient method. Some simple steps can complete the registration process within a few minutes.
Step 1: Download and install the Paytm app.
Step 2: Login to the app with login credentials
Step 3: In the search bar type ‘Buy FASTag’
Step 4: Select ‘Personal’ if the FASTag is for a private vehicle and ‘Commercial’ if it is for a commercial vehicle
Step 5: Fill in your vehicle’s registration number
Step 6: Upload the VRC (Vehicle Registration Certificate)
Step 7: Confirm your delivery address and proceed to pay

How to Register FASTag on PhonePe?
You can do the FASTag Registration using PhonePe within minutes. The steps for the registration are given below.
Step 1: Click on the PhonePe icon on your smartphone
Step 2: Under the Recharge and Pay Bills Section, click on the ‘See All’ tab
Step 3: You will find the Buy FASTag option under the ‘Purchases’ option
Step 4: Click on the ‘Buy FASTag’ option
Step 5: Enter your PAN and Vehicle Registration Number
Step 6: Enter any ID number (Voter ID number, or Passport Number, or Driving Licence number)
Step 7: Enter your mobile number and click on the ‘Continue’ button

How to Register FASTag Offline?
You can visit the issuer bank’s branch or POS Sales Office at toll plazas for FASTag Registration Offline. You will have to
Step 1: Locate the nearest POS Sales Office or the bank branch
Step 2: Obtain the FASTag Registration Form
Step 3: Fill in the details and submit it along with copies of the documents including your address proof, photo ID proof, vehicle registration certificate and passport-size photograph
Step 4: You will have to make payment of the FASTag charges which comprises the FASTag fee, security deposit, and a minimum recharge amount.
Step 5: After the payment, the documents submitted will be verified.
Step 6: The bank will dispatch the FASTag to your contact address.
Step 7: The FASTag will be issued immediately at the POS Sales Office and a representative will affix the FASTag to your vehicle’s windshield.
The FASTag issued by banks will be pre-activated. The FASTag by the POS Sales Office has to be activated using the MyFASTag app before proceeding with toll payments.
How to Use FASTag?
Before utilising the FASTag for toll payments, you must affix and activate the tag on your vehicle. Here are the steps to follow:
- Carefully affix the FASTag onto your vehicle’s windshield.
- Ensure the tag is correctly positioned, adhesive side facing outward.
- Gently press the tag to securely attach it.
- Link your FASTag to a prepaid account.
- The Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) reader will identify the tag and deduct the applicable toll fee from your FASTag prepaid account.
- You will receive an SMS notification confirming the debited amount.
