FASTag is a digital toll collection system that has been introduced in India for efficient management of toll collection. It utilises the RFID technology and automatically debits the fee to the account linked to the FASTag. To enable easy procurement of the FASTag online, several options have been provided. You can buy the FASTag through the official website of NETC or the website of preferred banks. To further make the purchase and recharge easier, purchase and recharge of FASTag through mobile applications like Amazon Pay, PhonePe, BBPS etc., and digital platforms like Paytm are enabled. FASTag, managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is an electronic toll collection system employing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. It facilitates automatic toll payments directly from linked prepaid or savings accounts, eliminating the need to stop at toll plazas. Installed on a vehicle’s windshield, FASTag can be acquired from authorised issuers or participating Indian banks. Recharging, with a minimum amount of ₹100, can be conveniently done online. To encourage adoption, FASTag offers a 7.5% cashback. Dedicated FASTag lanes are present at various toll plazas.
Additionally, FASTag can be used for fuel purchases at select petrol pumps. As of September 2019, it was available on 500+ highways, with over 5.46 million cars equipped. Initially slated for mandatory implementation on January 1, 2021, it was later postponed to February 15, 2021.

You purchase a FASTag online through any of the available options. You will then affix the FASTag on your vehicle’s windshield. When you reach a toll plaza this is how your FASTag works to pay the appropriate toll.
- While activating the FASTag you will link it to a prepaid account or a preferred bank’s savings account.
- Utilising Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, the toll fee is automatically deducted from the linked FASTag account.

Various options as given below have been enabled for the purchase of FASTag online:
- Visit the official website of the preferred bank.
- Look for the FASTag option and click on the Apply Now option
- A FASTag application will open on the next page.
- Fill in the required details and provide soft copies of the necessary documents as given below
- The Aadhar Card of the vehicle owner
- PAN of the vehicle owner
- Passport-size photo of the vehicle owner
- Registration Certificate of the vehicle
- On submitting the application, you will be guided to the payment section.
- Choose among the payment options available and pay the specified fee for the FASTag.
- Upon verification of the details in the application and the documents submitted, the bank will deliver the FASTag to the contact address mentioned in the application.

To acquire FASTag online through Amazon Pay follow these steps:
- Launch the Amazon Pay app, on your smartphone.
- Navigate to the ‘Buy FASTag’ section.
- Select a preferred bank as the FASTag issuing bank.
- Input your vehicle registration number.
- Verify the accuracy of the vehicle details.
- Proceed to make the payment.
- Finalise the payment using your chosen payment gateway.
Phone Pe has partnered with ICICI Bank to issue FASTag online. To procure the FASTag through PhonePe follow the steps given below:
- Download and Install the PhonePe app
- Log in to the app using login credentials.
- Click on ‘See All” under the ‘Recharge and Pay Bills’ Section and you will find Buy FASTag option under Purchases
- Click on the ‘Buy FASTag’ option
- You will have to enter the make and model of your vehicle on the next page and continue
- Upload a copy of your vehicle’s RC
- Enter the details required like name, mobile number, etc., and click on the continue button.
- Enter your delivery address and proceed.
- Verify your vehicle details and agree to ICICI Bank’s terms and conditions
- Click on ‘Proceed’ and make payment through any of the preferred payment gateway
- The FASTag will be delivered within 7 to 8 working days.
You can buy FASTag offline either through a preferred bank branch or through a POS Sales Office located at toll plazas. Follow the procedure given below:
- Locate the nearest bank branch or toll plaza
- Obtain a FASTag application form either from the bank or the POS terminal.
- Fill in the details required and submit it along with the required KYC documents and a copy of your vehicle’s registration certificate.
- The bank official at the designated counter or the official at the POS terminal will verify the documents and the details provided in the application.
- Pay the FASTag fee to complete the process.
- The bank will dispatch a pre-activated FASTag to your delivery address.
- At the POS terminal, the FASTag will be issued immediately. It will be fixed to your vehicle’s windshield by the representative of the Sales Office.
- The FASTag purchased at a POS terminal should be activated using the MyFASTag App before using it for toll payments.
When you buy a FASTag offline from POS Sales Offices at toll plazas, it won’t be initially linked to any bank. To establish this linkage, follow these activation steps:
- Download the ‘My FASTag App.’
- Launch the app and click on ‘Activate NHAI FASTag.’
- Select the source from which you acquired the FASTag.
- Enter the FASTag ID or utilise the QR code scanning feature to activate your tag.
- Connect the FASTag to your preferred bank account or choose a prepaid wallet option based on your preference.
To use the FASTag follow the steps given below:
- Start by peeling off the white adhesive liner from the tag to prepare your FASTag for use.
- Place the FASTag at the upper centre of your vehicle’s windshield, positioned just behind the rearview mirror.
- Keep in mind that once you have securely affixed the tag, avoid attempting to remove and reposition it. Such actions may damage the RFID circuit, and the tag may not function at the toll plaza
The documents required for vehicles owned by individuals and non-individuals differ. For non-individuals, the documents required depend on the constitution.

FASTag Online FAQ’s:-
The FASTag charges will be Rs. 100. In addition to the FASTag fee, a security deposit and minimum balance will be collected which depends on the FASTag issuing bank.
Give a missed call to the FASTag Customer Care helpline + 91 8884333331 and you will get your FASTag balance via SMS to your mobile number linked to the FASTag.
After completing 2 years of FASTag purchase, 4 SMS will be sent to the non-KYC customer to update the KYC for uninterrupted service.
You will not be able to recharge the FASTag after completion of 2 years unless you update the KYC.
You can update the KYC through the issuer bank or the IHMCL portal.
